A Things Did not Know it about Dead Rising 4 (Not-Secrets)

Tips and gameplay mechanics in Dead Rising 4 that are not conveyed at all to the player.

Open Sesame:

  • Many of the businesses in the mall - and all over Willamette - have a safe somewhere inside. You can use the Spectrum Analyzer to decipher the access code and claim the items hidden inside.
Investigate Rumors First:

  • After you leave the mall and head into the town of Willamette, your contact Paula will report suspicious activity going on around town. Investigating these Rumors usually leads to a boss battle, as well as a big batch of bonus PP and Scrap, However, if you fail to investigate these Rumors before finishing that particular Case File, you will be unable to complete them later when the next case begins.
Multiple Vehicle Weapons:

  • While the in-game tutorial specifies that your combo vehicles each have one weapon (LB), they actually have three - two “standard” weapons, such as the Bogey Monster’s Golf-Ball Launcher (LB) and it’s mower-esque spinning golf club base (RB), Additionally, each vehicle has a “power” attack that can be utilized by pressing ‘X’ after filling the combo meter.
Digging For Treasure:

  • Some blueprints are hidden underground, and can only be detected with the Spectrum Analyzer filter on the camera. When you find these items, a “Dig” prompt appears - you’ll need an Exo-Suit to get a hold of these schematics, luckily there’s usually one not too far away.
You Can’t Hurt Survivors:

  • Friendly survivors are immune to damage from Frank. This means that, when attempting to rescue a survivor surrounded by the horde, explosives (such as the Blambow) are your best bet.
Vehicle Turrets:

  • It’s possible to man the mounted machine gun turrets on top of the military humvees parked around town - use the ‘Throw’ button while in the driver’s seat to switch to the turret.
No Throwing:

  • No, you’re not missing a tutorial. The ability to throw melee weapons has been removed from Dead Rising 4 in favor of making the quick-swap from melee to ranged weapons easier.
Panic Room and Locker Locations:

  • From time to time you may notice a blue circle appear on your map. These indicate the approximate location of a safe room that you have an access key for, These panic rooms often contain powerful weapons or blueprints, so be sure to investigate them when you can. Maps of the panic room key locations can be purchased in a safe house once it reaches Level 3, Similarly, when you collect a set of keys for a storage unit, a grey keyhole icon will appear on your map where the corresponding locker can be found.
Encounters Are Randomized:

  • Both inside the Megaplex and around the town of Willamette, encounters with friendly survivors (or other activities) grant Frank substantial bonus PP, as well as extra scrap or weapons, These events will reset in their locations after players venture far enough away, and can be farmed for extra PP. Encounters around the town will be randomly assigned activities, such as raiding a supply drop, destroying equipment or rescuing survivors.
Undead Selfies:

  • When entering Camera Mode and swapping to Selfie Mode (RB on XB1), Frank will grab any nearby zombie and drag them into the frame with him.
